2 Growlers. In Antarctic seas, in ice free or open waters, in ice fields zones, and especially, in vicinities of floes, drifting pieces of hard and small ice called growlers used to drift along. These are the most dangerous pieces of ice for ships

because:

(1) are of small size, less than 20 square meters of surface, being extremely difficult to be detect either by radar, as by eye observation, as well as when being surrounded by sea ice or high sea state, (2) are very hard as a consequence of their crystalline structures consolidation, (3) are generally of whitish appearance, sometimes transparent or of bluish-green color usually showing mimicry with seawater color, (4) because sail in subsurface waters emerging to the surface from time to time. Growlers produce sounds as growls when drifting; that is the reason of their name.

3 Toponymics. British geographic names (Argentine geographic names).
